Thomas Reviews First Step Training – Week 3

First Step Training – Siem Reap

Whilst Thomas, Trustee Jo’s husband, is in Siem Reap he gets the opportunity to meet Alistair Hilton, Technical Advisor at First Step, and reviews at first hand the First Step Training.

Nineteen participants from various NGOs eagerly join in the discussions at the Khmer Learning Institute in Siem Reap as the local social work trainers encourage the participants to employ critical thinking, reflection and analysis.

Prevention, Protection, Support, Advocacy and Education are the key aims of the First Step training that started in May 2013, and is due to finish the first phase in November.  Follow-up sessions will run until April 2014.
Thomas discussed the social work training course with Alistair who suggested that even after the first few months of training it is meeting a demand and confirmed it is an effective method of gaining a better understanding of social problems, identifying underlying causes of complex issues and opens dialogue to seek solutions.

The feedback from the participants is positive too who said that they find the content interesting, challenging and useful.
