News from This Life Cambodia

In conjunction with This Life’s Life Behind Bars programme, which HOPE have supported for the past 5 years, TLC have been working with Human Rights charity LICADHO on the ground breaking Mothers Behind Bars report.

The Mothers Behind Bars report was published in May 2015 and achieved media coverage well deserved of the hard work that went in behind it. Billy Gorter, TLC Founder and  Executive Director, was quoted in the Phnom Penh Post as saying ‘when a parent is imprisoned the dynamics of family life changes’ – www.phnompenhpost.com/national/prisons-toll-families-detailed. This in turn leads to a greater likelihood of children dropping out of school, stigma within communities and prolonged emotional disruption and family separation.

TLC developed the ‘Family Support Project’ building on the strengths of families to increase resilience, maintain stability and enhance connectedness. ‘The Family Support Project takes an evidence-based holistic approach, including case management, and is administered through five primary project activities, which provide targeted support in the areas of basic/emergency needs, education, income generation, visitation and health’ says Hayley Lee Allen Strategi Partnerships Officer.
