The Silk Lab has been developed to assist the underprivileged women of Pouk District in the Siem Reap Province. It enables them to help support their families, provide social and economic security and have the chance to take their future into their own hands.
The women, aged between 17 and 27, have been trained to become professional seamstresses and have additional English classes too. They produce a beautiful selection of fashionable silk products including funky handbags, make up bags and purses. The products are sold at the Sangkheum Center, Angkor Night Market and many hotels in Siem Reap.
The Silk Lab is in its infancy and is working hard to achieve sustainability so that their profits can support the Sangkheum Center for Children. It also provides a possible employment choice for some of the young women currently at the Sangkheum Center.
